How to Save Pinterest Images at Full Original Resolution

To save a Pinterest image at full resolution, download the Pin's originals file, not the resized copy on screen.

Our Pinterest image downloader finds that file from the Pin link.

Why do saved Pinterest images look blurry?

Pinterest's CDN keeps several resized copies of each image, with widths such as 236, 474 and 736 pixels.

The feed and Pin pages load those copies because they are fast.

Right-click Save image as saves whichever copy is on screen.

A separate originals copy keeps the resolution the pinner uploaded.

Doesn't Pinterest have its own download button?

Yes. A Pin's ellipsis menu includes Download image, on the web and in the app.

It's quick, but it may not give you the largest file Pinterest stores.

Use it for casual saves. Use a downloader when resolution matters, like printing or editing.

How do I download the original file?

  1. Open the Pin and copy its link from the share menu.
  2. Paste it into the image downloader.
  3. Tap Download on the largest file listed.

The tool reads the Pin's data and requests the originals copy directly.

What file formats will you get?

Pinterest accepts BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and WebP uploads.

Most files you download arrive in one of these formats:

  • JPG for photos and product shots
  • PNG for graphics, logos and transparent images
  • WebP for some newer uploads

We never convert or re-compress. You get the file Pinterest serves.

What about GIFs and multi-image Pins?

Animated Pins are stored differently. Use the GIF downloader for those.

Swipeable Pins with several images need the carousel downloader.

Can you reuse a downloaded Pinterest image?

Not automatically. Downloading a file doesn't transfer its copyright.

Use downloads for personal reference.

Ask the creator before republishing an image or using it commercially.
